For many people, Friday the 13th is a very unlucky day; but for Broadway Cares, it is a very good day.
March 13 marks the beginning of the Spring Red Bucket Fundraising campaign to raise money for “people facing illness, hunger and financial hardship”.
The red buckets can be found at Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national touring performances by cast members and volunteers.
The campaign runs through April 26.
One-hundred percent of the donations go to help those in need. A $10 donations will pay for an HIV test; $100 can provide meals to a family for two weeks.
The campaign also offers theatre fans an opportunity to receive autographed posters and playbills for their donations. And new this year, Plato Seto – the stage manager for “Maybe Happy Ending – has designed some collectible theatre trading cards – CurtainCards.
The cards were originally designed for sale last fall at the annual flea market. The cards have been expanded to include “Maybe Happy Ending”, “& Juliet”, and “Oh, Mary!”. The cards can only be found at those performances and will be for sale following the show.
