On February 22, the British Academy of British Film and Television Arts held their annual awards gala with Alan Cummings as host.

Often seen as a pre-curser to Hollywood’s Oscars, the film “One Battle After Another” took home six awards at the ceremonies.

“Sinners” and “Frankenstein” followed with three awards each.

Jessie Buckley became the first Irish actress to win the award for Best Actress for her role as Agnes Hathaway in the film “Hamnet”.

Robert Aramayo took home the Best Actor award for his role in “I Swear” – a film about people with Tourette syndrome.  A member of that community was in the audience and has caused quite a stir for espousing a racial slur during the performance.  People who have Tourette’s often do not have control of what they say and can utter inappropriate things; no fault of their own.

Along with the numerous British and American film stars, Paddington Bear and the Prince and Princess of Wales were in attendance.
