Only one more day of competition to go in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games; but over the past two weeks there have been plenty of tears and cheers as the athletes experience the heartbreak of defeat and the exuberance of standing on the podium with medals around their necks.
But it has also been an Olympics filled with record setting events.
Norway and the USA have set new medal count records and Norway’s Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo became the first Winter Olympian to not only sweep the cross-country ski events; he won six gold medals to be the winningest athlete in the Winter Olympics.
Only five more events remain in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games including the men’s gold medal game in hockey between Team USA and Team Canada. The USA has not won the gold medal since the “Miracle on Ice” at Lake Placid in 1980.
Norway extended their gold medal record to 18 and a total of 40 medals.
The United States have set a record of their own with eleven gold medals – the most ever in the Winter Olympics.
Denmark joined the medal count with a silver medal in speed skating.
