It was a historic day in the Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina on day eight of the competition.  Called the Quad God, Ilia Malinin was expected to take home the gold medal in his Olympic debut.  Going into the free skate, he had a five point lead but after two falls during his free skate program and failed to make the podium. Norway holds on to the gold medal lead with eight.  Norway and host country Italy are tied at the top with a total of 18 medals each.

Kazakhstan joins the list of medal winning nations with a gold medal in figure skating and Great Britain in skeleton.
