Watching a live sporting event for a person with a visual disability can be a very daunting task.
But the assistive technology startup OneCourt has created a solution to the problem…a tactical device that allows the user to “see” the game with their fingers.
Currently the “haptic feedback devices” are available at Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazer basketball games. The tablet-sized devices offer real-time data via distinctive buzzing patterns.
OneCourt CEO Jerred Mace spoke on the device saying, “we believe that sports are for everyone, and at OneCourt, we have created an intuitive tactile broadcast that makes sports more enjoyable for fans of any age, background, or visual ability.”
Upon using the device at a Trail Blazers game, TikTok creator Ferraro said, “I can’t explain how life-changing this is as a blind spectator.”
The technology is also available for Seattle Seahawks fans.
