Jinkx Monsoon is starting to look like the busiest lady on Broadway.
She has parlayed her appearances on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” into a full time career on Broadway.
Monsoon will be heading for London to take on the role of an American icon – Judy Garland – in the play “End of the Rainbow” – a play that focuses on the latter stage of her life.
The two time “Drag Race” winner earned her second win partially due to her “Snatch Game” win where she played Garland. For those unfamiliar with “The Snatch Game”, the queens must dress and take on the role of iconic stars in a game similar to “Hollywood Squares”. The questions and answers are often whacky and hilarious.
Monsoon will be reprising her role of Mary Todd Lincoln in “Oh, Mary!” before heading across the pond for the performances May 15-June 21 at the Soho Theatre Walthamstow.
Monsoon spoke on Judy Garland saying, “Judy Garland came into my life, like many, through entertainment, but she stays in my life because of her story. We know all too well the toll that fame took from her. Looking back, we can see more clearly the many factors that played a part in her storied life. I know people know me for impressions and imitation, but I’m thrilled for this chance to explore beyond the laughter and into the heart of why we still think so much about Judy today. Her tale is one that we can’t forget, especially as women in entertainment are still fighting for autonomy and agency in their own careers. I’m ready to bring new aspects of her story to the stage, and to share what I find so tragically beautiful about her life, with my U.K. audiences.”
Jinkx Monsoon’s Broadway credits include “Chicago”, “Oh, Mary!”, “Pirates! The Penzance Musical”, and “Little Shop of Horrors”.
