Actor Gene Hackman died in February at the gae of 95.  Now his trophies, personal collection, and artworks are being auctioned.

The New York based auction house Bonhams Auctions will be overseeing the events with the only live auction set for November 19 in New York City.  The auction will feature Hackman’s art collection.

Head of 20th and 21st Century Art at Bonhams Andrew Huber spoke on the art collection saying, “these are prestigious works with impeccable provenance, further enriched by their association with one of the greatest actors of our time.  Hackman was not only a collector but an artist himself, and his approach to collecting mirrors the care, aesthetic sensibility, and discipline evident in his own artistic practice. This is a collection shaped with extraordinary thoughtfulness and passion.”

Two more auctions have been planned but are online only events with the first taking place between November 8 and 21; with the second taking place between November 25 and December 4.  Hackman’s personal artworks, book, scripts, posters, and other memorabilia from his career including his three Golden Globe Awards will be featured in the online auctions.

Bonhams noted in their social media announcement, “the Gene Hackman Collection offers a rare window into the artistic mind of a profoundly disciplined and instinctive artist.”

Hackman, his wife Betsy, and their dog were all discovered dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home in February.
