Tony, Oscar, and Emmy Award winning costume and set designer Tony Walton died in 2022 at the age of 87 from complications of a stroke; next month his estate will be holding an auction that will include both personal and professional items.
Walton spent over 60 years creating costumes and designing sets for numerous Broadway productions including the film “Mary Poppins” with then wife Julie Andrews, “Chicago”, “Annie Get Your Gun”, and “Guys and Dolls”.
The Willow Auction House will conduct the auction in Lincoln Park, New Jersey November 4-6 with each day featuring a different theme and includes over 700 items.
November 4 will feature Walton’s early works including caricatures and illustrations for “Playbill” and works from the Slade School, “Chicago”, “Carousel”, “Conversation Piece”, “Pippin”, and the original film sketchbooks and poster from “All That Jazz” and “The Wiz”.
November 5 will feature costumes and set designs from “Sophisticated Ladies”, “Woman of the Year”, “Little Me”, “The Real Thing”, “Annie Get Your Gun”, and “Guys and Dolls.
November 6 will include items of Walton’s personal items – Playbills, posters, books, toys, and decorative items.
Bidding is available online, by telephone, via live stream, and in person. Previews begin October 31 and run through November 3…or by appointment.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit “The Entertainment Community Fund.
