The postseason merry-go-round of coaching jobs continues to spin with several more positions opening up.
After a record of 63 and 99 (36-52 under Montgomery) this season, the Los Angeles Angles have let interim general manager Ray Montgomery go. Montgomery took over on June 20 when manager Ron Washington stepped back due to medical issues – he had quadruple heart bypass surgery. This is the 10th season in a row that the Angles have finished with a sub-500 record.
The Angels also chose not to pick up Washington’s option; releasing both coaches. The next manager will be the fifth for the Angels since 2019.
Reports are that former St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols is Angels owner Arte Moreno’s choice for the next manager and will be interviewing for the job.
As previously announced, the San Francisco Giants released manager Bob Melvin after a 500 season.
Just hours later the Texas Rangers announced that manager Bruce Bochy would not be returning next season.
There is a great deal of speculation as to whether Giants president Buster Posey – who played for Bochy – will select his former coach to make a return to the Giants. However, Posey may not be thinking along those lines, telling reporters, “I talked to Boch a couple of days ago. … The door’s always open here for some sort of role. But the way I think things are coming into picture in my mind with where we want to go next, I don’t see us going that route with Boch”.
When the Rangers hired Bochy, they brought the former manager out of retirement.
After the Colorado Rockies started their 2025 season with a record of 7 and 33, the Rockies released manager Bud Black and replaced his with third base coach Warren Schaeffer. The Rockies did not fair a whole lot better with Schaeffer, going 36 and 86 for a league’s worst 42 and 119 record for the season.
But before the Rockies can hire a new head coach, they will need to locate a new General Manager after Bill Schmidt left the team.
Executive Vice President Walker Monfort noted that they are, “setting our sights on finding the right leader from outside our organization who can bring a fresh perspective to the Rockies and enhance our baseball operations with a new vision, innovation and a focus on both short- and long-term success.”
The Washington Nationals went to the World Series in 2019 and have not had a winning season since.
During the All Star break, the Nationals released manger Dave Martinez and president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo. Miguel Cairo was named interim coach; they have now released Cairo after a record of 29 and 43.
The Nationals have now hired Paul Toboni as the president of baseball operations who can now begin the search for a new manager.
As previously announced the Minnesota Twins have released manager Rocco Baldelli.
After a 15 and 28 start the Baltimore Orioles released Brandon Hyde as the manager of the team and named third base coach Tony Mansolino as the interim manager.
President of baseball operations Mike Elias stated that Mansolino is on the list of possible managers for next season; along with, other possible candidates.
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker has spent nearly 50 years with the Braves organization in one capacity or another. After missing the playoffs for the first time in eight years, Snitker announced that he was going to step away from coaching but will stay on with the Braves in an advisory role.
As a thank your form the Braves, Snitker got a brand new truck and a vacation in Hawaii for him and his wife.
