“Back in the day” MTV was a real music channel that played music videos 24 hours a day with a few music related programs thrown in including “MTV Unplugged” where artists would “unplug” and give an acoustic performance.
In 1995 one of those artists was The Cranberries. On November 7, The Cranberries will be releasing their “MTV Unplugged” performance for the first time.
The album will be available as a vinyl LP, on CD, and as a digital download. A limited edition coloured vinyl album will also be offered exclusively through COMPLEX.
Earlier this summer, The Cranberries released a limited edition 3LP 30th anniversary album – “No Need to Argue” that included the MTV performance. The collection sold out very quickly.
The nine song performance was recorded February 14, 1995 at the Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn and aired on “MTV Unplugged” on April 18.
Cranberries drummer Fergal Lawler noted, “we’d seen some of the biggest names in music like R.E.M., Pearl Jam, The Cure and Nirvana do their Unplugged’s and were blown away to be following in their footsteps. MTV were doing a series of recordings in this beautiful old theatre with curved seating. It was a really chilled, relaxed vibe with the audience sitting on the floor.”
The song list for The Cranberries “MTV Unplugged” performance:
“Dreaming My Dreams”
“Ode To My Family”
“Linger”
“Free To Decide”
“I’m Still Remembering”
“Empty”
“Zombie”
“Yesterday’s Gone”
“No Need To Argue”
The album is available for pre-order now.
