Last week the upcoming musical “Purple Rain” announced the lead characters for the show in Kris Kollins as The Kid (Prince) and Rachel Webb as Apollonia.
This week, the show has revealed that the cast has been completed with Bilaal Avaz ad Doc, Leon Addison Brown as Father, Jaci Calderon as Susan, Lawrence Gilliard Jr as Billy Sparks, Anissa Griego as Jill, Jared Howelton as Morris, Christina Jones as Brenda, Emma Lenderman as Lisa, Gian Perez as Bobby, Kondwani Phiri as Mark, Antonio Michael Woodard as Jerome, and Grace Yoo as Wendy. Jason Korn will take the role of The Kid for some performances.
The musical has been adapted from the original 1984 film by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins including the original soundtrack songs as the musical’s score.
Tony Award winner Jason Michael Webb will serve as music supervisor, arranger, and orchestrator with Prince band members Bobby Z and Morris Hayes as musical advisors.
“Purple Rain” tells the story of “an up and coming” rock musician in Minneapolis.
The show opens at the State Theatre on October 16 and will run through November 16.
