Create an emergency preparedness plan.

You would have thought with a fireman grandfather and growing up in hurricane country that I would be better prepared in a time of emergency like natural disasters and the like.

But quite frankly other than making sure I keep a supply of canned goods with a hand operated can opener and a supply of batteries, I really haven’t done much in the way of planning.

I don’t drive so trying to make a plan to “get out of Dodge” doesn’t seem very practical. Don’t think my bike would be a very good way to make the “Great Escape”.

Hunkering down at home – had plenty of practice with that during the pandemic – seems a more practical way to go. Canned goods don’t really require any cooking, just open the can. Granted a warm bowl of soup is much more desirable but in an emergency any food is better than nothing.

Now living in snow country, I have a nice supply of blankets and a Russian made fur coat. A big pile of snow provides an ample supply of water – it’s basically frozen water.

The biggest thing in times of emergency is the time honored “don’t panic”; it gets annoying to hear but not going into a panic and trying to stay calm is the best solution…I know, it is much easier said than done. When “normal” gets out of whack, it is easy to let anxiety and panic take over.

And common sense!
