For the past 100 years the Associated Press has kept Americans and the world informed and up to date when it comes to the news; whether it be the latest headlines, sporting news, the latest stock reports, and entertainment.

As part of the 100th anniversary, AP has released their version of the best of the 2,000 All American college football players.

The Big Ten conference led the way with seven players on the list, followed by the Southeastern Conference with five.

As for the players themselves five are Heisman Trophy winners and 21 have made it into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The top 100 players were selected by 12 AP sports writers who regularly cover college football.  While there are many great college football players over the course of history, the list only covers 100.  The journalists were cautioned against choosing on bias.

The criteria for selection are that a player must have been on the AP All American first team roster at least once.  Professional careers were not considered.

Only three of the players listed played prior to the year 1970.
