At a recent movie prop auction, the Rosebud sled from the 1941 film “Citizen Kane” brought in one of the highest priced pieces of memorabilia in Hollywood history at $14.75 million! The sled was topped only by the sale of Judy Garland’s ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz” at $32.5 million last December.
The sled was thought lost when Joe Dante found it in 1984 while working on another film. He used the sled in four of his films.
Two other sleds from the film went up for auction and sold for $60,500 in 1982 and $233,000 in 1996.

The owner who put the whip up for auction and its buyer were not identified.
