All the rumours have come true and the Opera Ghost will return! Renamed “Masquerade”, the show is an immersive production.
Tickets went on sale Monday to an exclusive list of people who had signed the OG’s Ledger. Wait times to get access to tickets ran around and hour with thousands of people online waiting their chance to see the famous spirit once again. And in three hours not a ticket could be found.
However, His Ghostliness has announced that more shows will be announced on July 9.
Formerly the sight of Lee’s Art Shop at 218 W. 57th St, “Masquerade” has turned the five story building into the Paris Opera House with performances set to begin July 31.
The “Host” – the Opera Ghost himself has set a dress code for the evening’s events as attendees will become a part of the show…and hunt for the elusive “Phantom”. Dress for the night is black, white, and/or silver gala evening party attire including a mask…but with comfortable shoes…the better to track the ghost (no “sitting down” shoes). And if you do not have a mask, one will be provided for you.
While fully accessible and ADA compliant, it is an adult only 21 and over event. Guests 16 and over will be permitted during matinee performances during the six week preview shows.
Any guest who may require a special accommodation is encouraged to contact the production via email at access@masqueradenyc.com.
The cast of the show is a mix of newcomers and “Phantom” veterans with Tony Award winning director Diane Paulus at the helm.
The original “Phantom of the Opera” ran for 35 years at the Majestic Theatre before closing two years ago after nearly 14,000 performances. The Majestic underwent a renovation after the show closed.
