“No Time to Die” was Daniel Craig’s final film as James Bond and unlike previous Bond’s he did appear to die. But in typical Bond fashion, the franchise promised a return of the beloved super spy.
But, “Who Will it Be Now?”
Recently the long time owners the Broccoli family of the franchise sold creative control to Amazon; leaving a great deal about Bond in the air.
While the new Bond actor has yet to be revealed, his director has been announced – Denis Villeneuve – the man behind the “Dune” films. He is set to film the third “Dune” film this summer.
The seven time Academy Award winning Villeneuve noted he grew up watching Bond saying, “I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come. This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor.”
Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman have promised a screenplay and director before they name the newest Bond actor.
Amazon MGM has been working diligently to get a new film out create a new film…and sway long time fans that they will continue the time honoured traditions of James Bond.
Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios noted, “James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers.”
If Amazon can find their Bond by the end of the year, they could begin filming next year with a release date of sometime in 2027 or 28; but at this point that is speculation.
Who will join Sir Sean Connery, Sir Roger Moore, George Lazerby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig as super spy 007 is pure speculation but that doesn’t stop fans and industry professionals from dropping names into the hat; including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Aaron Pierre, Henry Cavill, James Norton and Jack Lowden. However, speculation also says that Bond will remain a male citizen of Great Britain.
However, the list of desired writers is a short one including Jonathan Nolan who is currently unavailable.
