When Dolly Parton was first nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, she refused the honour; but later changed her mind and is now a part of The Hall.
But Bass player Carol Kaye is not so pleased over her becoming a member of the Hall of Fame.
Not only has she declined the upcoming induction; but has abdicated the honour PERMANENTLY!
A prolific session player, Kaye’s bass playing can be heard on thousands of songs that include the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, The Monkees, Barbra Streisand, Sam Cooke, The Platters, The Everly Brothers, Frank Zappa, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Ritchie Valens, The Righteous Brothers, Phil Spector, Tiny Tim, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Kaye told the Associated Press and posted on social media that she wants no part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She noted that she was, “turning it down because it wasn’t something that reflects the work that Studio Musicians do and did in the golden era of the 1960s Recording Hits.”
Kaye is among the 2025 class of inductees that include Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, and Cyndi Lauper.
Kaye, Hal Blaine, and Tommy Tedesco was a trio of studio musicians that earned the name “The Wrecking Crew” – a name Kaye despised, saying, “I was never a ‘wrecker’ at all, that’s a terrible insulting name.”
Kaye’s music also appeared on a number of television shows and films including “Smokey and the Bandit”, “Wonder Woman”, “Sanford and Son”, “Magnum Force”, “The Way We Were”, “The Paper Chase”, “White Lightning”, “The Streets of San Francisco”, “High Plains Drifter”, “M*A*S*H”, “Planet of the Apes” films, “The Bill Cosby Show”, “Hawaii Five-O”, “The Thomas Crown Affair”, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, “In the Heat of the Night”, “Mission: Impossible”, “El Dorado”, “The Monkees’, and “Hogan’s Heroes”.
