Inspired by the television series “Smash”, took its musical hijinks to the Broadway stage. With an April 10 official opening, the show has announced that it will be closing June 22.
When the shows finally closes, it will have played 32 previews and 84 performances.
While heavily anticipated, the show just could not find its footing during the busy theatre season that saw a full 40 shows running. The show earned two nominations at the 78th annual Tony Awards but the box office reported consistent low numbers at the box office.
“Smash” is a musical abut making a musical about Marilyn Monroe and the struggles of creating the show.
Emmy, Tony, and Grammy Award winners Marc Shairman and Scott Wittman wrote music for the television series and the Broadway show.
The cast recording for the musical has recently been released and is available for streaming with the CD and LP coming later in the summer.
