It has been over 30 years since the R&B band Sly and the Family Stone performed together.
But on July 18, High Moon Records will be releasing a “long lost” live album – “Sly & The Family Stone’s The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967” for a wide audience release. The album will be available on CD, LP, and digital download and will come with a deluxe booklet that includes liner notes from producer Alec Palao, interviews, and never before seen photos.
The album was released earlier this year as a limited edition Record Store Day release.
The CD edition of the album includes a bonus of “Try a Little Tenderness”.
“I Gotta Go Now / Funky Broadway” is available now.
Producer Alec Palao spoke on the album saying, “the Winchester Cathedral recordings showcase a one-of-kind outfit that was already at the peak of its powers, long before it became internationally famous. Sly is fully in command, while the unique arrangements and tighter-than-tight ensemble playing point clearly to the road ahead, and the enduring influence of Sly & The Family Stone’s music.”
The pioneering R&B band brought it all with a band featuring men, women, black, white, rock and soul on one stage.
