While there were no penalties assessed to Cup Series drivers again this week, there were two Xfinity Series teams who were levied major penalties…one of them didn’t even run in the race.
The Jordan Anderson Racing number 87 car driven by Austin Green – which did not qualify for the race – and the Viking Motorsports number 99 driven by Matt DiBenedetto were both charged with L1 penalties after it was discovered the teams violated Sections 14.4.A: Body; 14.4.11.C&D in the NASCAR Rule Book for modifications to the rear bumper covers. The infractions were discovered during the pre-race inspection process.
As a result of the infractions the teams were fined $25,000 each plus the drivers and team owners were docked 20 points each and five playoff points.
With the point deductions, DiBenedetto maintains his 24th place position; but Green drops from 48th place to last (73rd) with -1 point.
