Boston Indie punk rockers Paper has just released their new single “Joe Modern”. Artists tap into all manner of things for inspiration when it comes to writing songs; but with their new song that inspiration came from an unusual place…
It started out as a joke!
A scamming realtor named Joe and the joke that they could write a song about him.
According to vocalist Alli Raina, “we kept joking that we should write a song about this guy – and then Rowan brought this wild guitar riff to rehearsal, and the rest just fell into place. The lyrics came to me instantly. It’s the most fun song to play live, and I think it helped us evolve our sound in a huge way.”
The video mixes the surreal and the sinister with a haunted businessman, a tormented dream, and sleep paralysis demon.
Formed in 2019, Paper Lady refers to their style of music as “spellbinding force in the world of ethereal rock and noisy freak folk.”
They cite Mazzy Star, Broadcast, and Jefferson Airplane’s psychedelic explorations as their influences.
Their single “Static” found its way to Spotify’s Fresh Finds Indie Playlist.
