On March 1 the British Music Industry presented the annual BRIT Awards (British form of the Grammys) with Jack Whitehall hosting the gala event.

Pop star Charli XCX nearly swept the awards winning five of the six categories in which she was nominated.  She earned the Best Album Award for her album “BRAT” at the Grammy Awards in February.

Chappell Roan joins Charli XCX as award winners on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Cure earned their first nomination in 30 years and The Beatles earned their first BRIT Award nomination in over 50 years.

Sabrina Carpenter became the first non-British artist to win the Global Success Award.

The BRIT Awards paid tribute to Liam Payne of One Direction who died last year in Argentina at age 31.

Myles Smith was this year’s Brits Rising Star winner.

Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party, and Sam Fender were among the performers during the gala event.
