At the Daytona 500 on Sunday, William Byron crossed the finish first after narrowly avoiding a big crash.  The win made Byron just the fifth driver to have back to back wins in the Daytona 500.

With 200 Cup Series career wins, it is no surprise that “The King” Rickard Petty had multiple Daytona 500 wins. Of his seven wins; his fourth and fifth were back to back wins.

Cale Yarborough had a total of four Daytona 500 wins with the last two back to back wins.

Sterling Marlin had just two Daytona 500 wins and they were back to back.

Still an active driver, Denny Hamlin has won the Daytona 500 three times with his second and third wins back to back.

William Byron and Denny Hamlin are just two of eight active drivers to win at least one Daytona 500.  In an interview over the weekend Denny Hamlin was asked if he would trade his three Daytona wins for a championship; Hamlin’s reply was no because winning the 500 is considered one of the crowning achievements in a racer’s career.

Though retired from full time racing, Jimmie Johnson makes the occasional foray into the occasional race.  The seven time champion has won the Daytona 500 twice.

Denny Hamlin is a three time 500 winner.

Three time champion Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, Michael McDowell, Austin Cindric, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr each have one Daytona 500 win.

And William Byron is now a two time Daytona 500 winner.
