With the running of the races in Daytona this past weekend, the NASCAR season has officially started. Between the Craftsman Truck, Xfinity, and Cup Series race fans pretty much saw it all – big crashes, rain delays, overtime finishes, some questionable moves by drivers, a disqualification, and some good racing!
The CW Network joined the lineup of broadcasters and fans who were willing to pay extra could tap into Max’s in car camera views of the race.
And the drivers have a new way to earn some extra points this season. The top 10 drivers in each Duel race earned points just like at the end of a stage but no playoff points were awarded and this year NASCAR has introduced the fastest lap win where the driver who runs the fastest lap during a race earns a point to add to their championship standings.
Austin Cindric and Bubba Wallace won their Duel races to add some points to the pot but a crash not of his making dropped Bubba down in the point standings. That same crash cost Kyle Busch any chance of finally earning a Daytona 500 win.
Ryan Preece took another tumble after getting airborne from a hit on the track. Fortunately, Preece walked a way from the wild ride that left some hearts beating pretty frantically.
William Byron became just the fifth driver to go back to back with wins in the Daytona 500 but he does not top the leaderboard in the point standings; that goes to Ryan Blaney who has a one point lead on Byron.
