Like many Americans I was aware of the general goings on in Washington, D.C. but had little to no interest in politics.
All of that changed after the presidential election in 2019…
As a journalist, one of my responsibilities is writing obituaries on celebrities when they pass on; so I was used to getting notifications. But after January 20, 2020 my responses to those notifications were “oh no, what did he do now?”
In 2016, I knew that Americans would elect a man of colour before they would elect a woman; and in 2024 they chose to elect a convicted felon over a woman.
Now, we have an unmitigated disaster that could destroy the democracy that has been the hallmark of American government for nearly 250 years.
Since January 20, 2025, the news has been filled with multiple reports daily of unlawful executive orders, lies, and people sticking their dirty little hands into places they have NO business being!
I definitely need a break from the nonsense and lies coming out of the White House!
I would love to open up the AP news app and NOT see that ugly mug scowling with the latest headline on an unconstitutional executive order that was created.
Currently there are numerous protests, lawsuits, and court rulings blocking some of those orders; but is it too little too late save the nation as we known it???
I try to keep my feelings and political thoughts to myself when I am writing, but this is one case that it was unavoidable.
