Currently, NASCAR is dealing with a lawsuit regarding their charter system but underneath it all there was another lawsuit that has just recently been decided in the courts.
At the end of the 2024 season, Tony Stewart and Gene Haas shut down operations at Stewart-Hass Racing. As a part of the closure, SHR was selling their charters, but with the anti-trust lawsuit in regard to those charters, there was not guarantee that NASCAR would allow the charter sale to go through.
In a court ruling, the judge ordered that the sale of charters to 23XI and Front Row Motorsports – the two teams that filed the lawsuit – to go through.
Former SHR driver Kevin Harvick expressed his pleasure at the decision saying, “I’m glad we don’t have to start the year with a bung of ‘this guy’s in, this guy’s not. Well, his teammate’s in.’ It would have been just a mess.”
