IMSA has assessed a penalty to one of the LMP2 entries after the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona race this past weekend.
The number eight LMP2 car was charged with a technical infraction when it was discovered during the post race inspection process that the skid block on the underside of the car exceeded the maximum allowable wear of five millimeters.
As a result of the infraction, IMSA has placed the number eight car in last place in the LMP2 class. There were 12 entries in the LMP2 class.
The team filed a protest but it was denied by IMSA.
The number eight car had finished the race first place in the class. With the penalty, the number 22 car has been moved up to first place and listed as the winner of the race…and the Rolex watch. The other drivers in the class will also move up one spot.
There were a number of penalties assessed during the 24 hour race itself for drivers blocking another driver, missing the chicane, and pit road infractions.
