With the NASCAR season beginning in less than two weeks with the annual Clash, NASCAR has revealed the format for the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 1 & 2.
Twenty-three drivers will compete in a 200 lap feature race on Sunday night February 2 on the tight 0.25-mile track of Bowman Gray.
But first on February 1 the drivers will get some time to practice with the fastest lap in the final practice session determining the starting lineup for the four 25 lap heat races.
The four fastest drivers will sit on the pole for each of the heat races with the remainder of the grid filled out accordingly. Only green flag laps will count during the heat races with not overtime. The top five drivers in each heat race will move on to the feature race on Sunday night.
The drivers who did not make the top five in the heat races will get one more chance to make the feature race in the 75-lap Last Chance Qualifier on Sunday afternoon before the main feature. Only green flag laps will count in the LCQ with no overtime. The top two drivers from the LCQ will move on to the main feature.
The final starting spot in the main feature is a provisional for the driver with the highest point total in the 2024 season who is not already in the race.
The winner from heat number one will sit on the pole for the main feature race.
There will be a break halfway through the race. Only green flag laps count but the race must end under green flag conditions.
When the drivers take to the track at Bowman Gray on February 1, it will be the first time NASCAR will be at the track since 1971 when Bobby Allison won the race.
