Earlier this month a 65 year old Mike Wallace announced that he had made a deal with MBM Motorsports to enter the Daytona 500 driving the 66 car.
On January 13, NASCAR made the announcement that Wallace would not be allowed to enter the race.
NASCAR must approve each driver who enters a race. In doing so, they take into consideration a number of factors including prior performance and racing activity.
Wallace was last in a NASCAR race since 2015 and has not been in a race car of any kind since 2020.
While he has never won the 500, Wallace is a three time Daytona winner with wins in the ARCA, Craftsman Truck, and Xfinity Series.
There is no word as to whether MBM Motorsports will attempt to enter the 66 car in the Daytona 500 with a different driver.
