Prior to the start of the 2025 NASCAR season, officials have made some changes to practice and qualifying session in all three of the racing series.
Practice session will increase from 20 to 25 minutes across all three series – Craftsman Truck, Xfinity, and Cup.
Only races at superspeedways will have a second round of qualifying for the top 10 drivers; all other will be single round qualifying; short tracks will include two lap qualifying runs with group qualifying on road courses.
Race lineups will return to qualifying times only; no more row by row designations.
Watching Cup Series practice and qualifying on television has also been streamlined with Prime Video airing the first half of the season and TNT Sports on Max and TruTV for the second half; the only exceptions are The Clash, Daytona 500, and All Star race which can be seen on FOX Sports.
The CW Network will carry all practice, qualifying, and races in the Xfinity Series and FOX Sports will broadcast the Craftsman Truck Series events.
Cup Series director Brad Moran spoke on the changes saying, “I think it’s going to be welcomed by the industry. We’ve gotten a lot of feedback throughout the year, and we made a couple of adjustments through the year, and we really wanted to take a whole fresh look at it. A lot of this came into play back in COVID, when we tightened things up, so we’re kind of going back a little to what we used to do again. We’re going to have a little more practice, which is obviously better for the fans and the partners.”
