The start of the 2025 NASCAR season is still over a month away, but on December 12, NASCAR released the schedule of events for Speedweek at Daytona International Speedway.
The events surrounding the beginning of the season at Daytona are like no other on the NASCAR circuit.
Events officially open on February 12 with a full 50 minute practice session for the Cup Series drivers; followed by a media session. The pre-qualifying practice session was added in order to give rookie drivers and new team combinations a little time to get oriented with the track and their teams.
Cup Series director Brad Moran spoke on the decision saying, “with the Daytona 500 being the biggest race of the NASCAR season and our first race, we felt that the extra practice would be good. We have new drivers coming up that are going to be running Cup full-time as well as some drivers who might just show up to run the Daytona 500. It’s a good opportunity to get out on the track, get some track time, shake the cars down prior to qualifying that night, a little more content for the fans and just to get us set up for a great week of racing with everything going on. It’s just going to set the tone for the entire week.”
The Cup Series drivers will qualify for the Daytona 500 under the lights on Wednesday (12th) night.
The Dual races are set to take place on Thursday under the lights.
The Craftsman Truck Series will race on Friday night with the ARCA Menard and Xfinity Series races taking place on Saturday. The week of events culminates on February 16 with the 67th annual Daytona 500; kicking off the official points season.
