Thanksgiving week in New York City means more than the annual Macy’s Parade…for many, it also includes taking in a Broadway show.
Thanksgiving week also kicks off the winter theater season and even with the performance schedule altered due to the holiday, Broadway’s 38 shows currently running brought in a whopping $46 million with over 300 million theater fans “catching a show”.
While the Hollywood version of “Wicked” is breaking box office records in the movie houses, the Broadway show that sparked the film tops the list of shows in the Million Dollar Club bringing in nearly $3 million last week. “The Lion King” and “Hamilton” also topped the two million dollar mark. “Elf” and “The Outsiders” rounded out the top five and came close to reaching the two million dollar mark.
A total of 23 of the 38 shows made it into the Million Dollar club last week.
