With races all over the world, Formula One racing is like no other racing format. They feature some of the biggest auto names in the world.
In the 2026 season, F1 will bring some major changes with new car manufacturers when Cadillac joins the car lineup.
GM President Mark Reuss spoke on the addition saying, “as the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence. It’s an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we’re committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world. This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level.”
The team will be called Cadillac F1 and will run Ferrari engines until a Cadillac engine can be built to begin the 2028 season.
Andretti Global spoke on being a part of Formula One saying, “we’re excited to partner with General Motors in bringing a dynamic presence to Formula 1. mTogether, we’re assembling a world-class team that will embody American innovation and deliver unforgettable moments to race fans around the world.”
Andretti patriarch Mario will serve as an ambassador for Cadillac F1.
Michael Andretti posted via social media saying, “the Cadillac F1 Team is made up of a strong group of people that have worked tirelessly to build an American works team. I’m very proud of the hard work they have put in and congratulate all involved on this momentous next step. I will be cheering for you!”
Formula One now runs three races in the United States. It concluded the U.S. races last weekend in Las Vegas running a street course on the Vegas Strip where Max Verstappen earned his fourth championship with two races remaining in the season.
Cadillac F1 will be the first expansion since 2010 when four teams were to be added – one never made it to the paddock; the other three are no long a part of Formula One.
Gene Haas owns the only American owned team in F1 but does not field American drivers. Cadillac F1 intends to field American drivers.
The addition of Cadillac into Formula One was a years long process that initially began with a refusal. Ben Sulayem said, “General Motors is a huge global brand and powerhouse in the OEM world and is working with impressive partners. I am fully supportive of the efforts made by the FIA, Formula 1, GM and the team to maintain dialogue and work towards this outcome of an agreement in principle to progress this application.”
