What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

I don’t really recall any specific meals that were a big hit in my family.

My mother made biscuits from scratch – no recipe, just dumping the ingredients in a bowl and rolling out the dough to cut the biscuits out with a glass – reaching up in the cupboard and taking the first one she put her hand on.

My Dad once told her she needed to make bigger biscuits so he wouldn’t eat so many! 🙂

If the family attended a pot luck dinner, the request was always for my mother’s chicken pot pie. The “pie” itself was nothing spectacular, but it was topped with her home made biscuits…always a big hit.

But the one thing that was always popular in our family is the grilled cheese sandwich! One of my brothers could eat as many sandwiches by himself as the rest of the family.

One time my mother asked me to see how many grilled cheeses my brother wanted…his response, “oh, I’m not hungry…give me three!”

It made me wonder just how many he could eat if he was REALLY hungry. I found out one day when my Dad talked about coming home for lunch and my brother came in. He grabbed a loaf of bread and a package of cheese; and then commenced making grilled cheese sandwiches…and didn’t stop until he used all the bread and cheese!

That brother has four children who have children of their own…and of course, grilled cheese sandwiches are a part of the menu.

I too enjoy a good grelled cheese sandwich.

But cheese in general is a popular item in the family household. According to my Dad, you can never put too much cheese in the macaroni and cheese – and not that fake stuff either, it had to be the REAL thing! The broccoli had to be smothered in cheese before anyone would eat it.
