Like NASCAR, IMSA begins its season at the World Center of Racing – Daytona International Speedway – but for IMSA it is a 24 hour endurance race that will see the teams race under the lights longer than they do in daylight.
This week the drivers in the WeatherTech Championship take to the track at Daytona to test out new equipment and for new personnel to familiarize themselves with new teams as they prepare for the 2025 racing season.
One of the biggest changes in the GTP – Grand Touring Prototype – is that Wayne Taylor Racing has changed manufacturers and is now in a Cadillac with Filipe Albuquerque and Ricky Taylor in the number 10 car and Louis Deletraz and Jordan Taylor in the number 40 car.
Acura Meyer Shank Racing returns to the WeatherTech Championship after a year’s absence with a two car team and Aston Martin THOR makes their WeatherTech debut. A reorganized Meyer Shank Racing returns with two teams ready to race for the championship.
Co-owner Michael Shank spoke on the return saying, “being here makes the world come right again. The earth is on the right axis. I was convinced at the end of 2022 we had the right group to do this. I know we still do, and they’re all here with us.”
On running two cars he added, “it’s tricky. One car seems like a vacation right now. Running two cars ramps things up exponentially. You’re continually trying to keep the two groups talking and communicating. It’s a unique way of doing things and different than anyone else in the paddock, but I love it.”
Porsche Penske Motorsport and Cadillac Whelen made some have modified their driver lineups.
