It was a wild weekend at Martinsville Speedway on the final week of races before the championship race. The championship four was set for all three series and just to make it interesting, there was some controversy at the end of the race that resulted in a penalty and the elimination of one playoff driver in the Cup Series.
At the end of the race William Byron and Christopher Bell were tied in the point standings but Bell held the tie breaker; however, after nearly a half an hour of discussion, NASCAR determined that Bell had performed a move similar to that of Ross Chastain’s “Hail Melon” and as a result committed a safety violation. The penalty dropped Bell to 22nd and out of the playoffs.
Ryan Blaney won the race to secure his spot in the playoffs and defend his championship and NASCAR awarded the final spot to William Byron after Christopher Bell’s penalty.
In the final race of the season Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, and William Byron will compete for the title of 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Champion.
In the point standings Ryan Blaney moves up five spots and takes over the lead.
