What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail.

When I first saw the prompt, I wasn’t sure what to say. There any number of things I may or may not want to learn. I would like to learn how to water ski – I’m not sure about the other one.

But for this prompt, it would have to be learning how to play a number of musical instruments. I know a bit of piano and guitar. I play some percussion as well.

Adding a bass guitar shouldn’t be that difficult; after all the four strings for the bass are the same as the four bottom strings on a guitar.

But I would really love to learn how to play the uillean pipes – they are the Irish cousin of the Scottish highland pipes but have a double bellows and you don’t have to blow them.

Another instrument I would really like to learn is the hammered dulcimer – a stringed instrument that is played with two hammers (mallets)

Yochin, a Mongolian hammered dulcimer with 120 strings

Obviously neither one of these would be a simple task but I love the sound of the instruments and would love to try them. I did get to hold and try a set of pipes during an Irish session.

And maybe one day when things settle down a bit around here, I can pick up my dreadnaught guitar again. It seems like I learn some things and then life gets in the way and by the time I get back to it, I have to start all over again.
