After the Xfinity Series United Rentals 250 at Talladega last Saturday, NASCAR officials determined that the number one JR Motorsports car driven by Sam Mayer failed the ride height requirement during the post race inspection process. As a result, Mayer and the number one car was disqualified from the race; placing Mayer in last place.
On Monday, Dale Earnhardt Jr appealed the ruling.
On October 9 the National Motorsports Appeals Panel upheld the penalty leaving Sam Mayer as the last place driver in the race despite his16th place finish. One of the 12 playoff drivers, the penalty places Mayer below the cut line in elevenh and in danger of being eliminated this weekend at the Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In making the ruling, the three member panel stated, “the panel found that NASCAR used standard inspection procedures at Talladega Superspeedway on October 5, 2024, on the number one NXS car and found Rule 14.17.3.2.2.2 in violation.”
Under normal appeal circumstances, JR Motorsports would have one more chance to appeal the ruling but since the penalty was under the disqualification ruling; JRM cannot appeal any further.
