Last weekend the Xfinity and Cup Series ran on the high speed two mile track at Michigan International Speedway. It was a return to racing after a long break for the Olympics in Paris.

On Wednesday, NASCAR issued just one penalty from the weekend’s events and it was a major penalty to Big Machine Racing and the number 48 car driven by Parker Kligerman.

NASCAR determinded that the 48 team violated the rule book in relation to the rear spoiler and team sourced parts that do not comply with the rule book.  NASCAR cited sections 10,5,2,2,A & B and 14.4.10.A from the rule book – failure to meet minimum with post race, failure to submit and receive approved parts, and issues with the rear spoiler.

As a result of the penalty, Big Machine Racing was docked 20 car owner points and five playoff points.  Driver Parker Klligerman was also docked 20 driver points and five playoff points.  Crew chief Patric Donahue was fined $25,000.

Kligerman is currently above the cut line with a few races remaining in the regular season, but that gap has closed considerably with the assessment of the penalty.
