The Summer Olympic Games in Paris are over and the final medal count is in with the United States leading the way with a total of 126 medals. The U.S. ties with the People’s Republic of China for the lead in gold medals with 40. There were athletes from 205 countries participating in the Games and nearly half of them – 91 – taking home medals.
The Summer Olympic Games will return in 2028 in Los Angeles, California. But first the Paralympians will have their games later this month in Paris.
