Boston rockers Aerosmith have been filling venues and rocking with their fans for over 50 years, but despite all of their efforts to make one last hurrah for the fans, they fell short.

After injuring his vocal chords last year, lead singer Steven Tyler was hoping that surgery would repair the damage and the farewell tour could go on.  But the damage is permanent and Tyler can no longer perform.

As a result, the rockers have announced that they must cancel the long awaited tour.  Issuing a statement, the band said, “he (Tyler) has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible.  We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

The statement continued, “we’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other.  It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours,” the band said. “In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”

The band was on the farewell tour last year when Tyler sustained the injury.  Despite the bleeding, Tyler and the band hoped that he would be able to return to the stage.

Along with Tyler, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band members include Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer.
