Last year Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award winning musical “Phantom of the Opera” closed its doors after 35 years on Broadway.
And less than a year later, the rumours have already begun to fly that the ghostly nemesis is looking to make a return.
The publication “Theatrical Index” has the musical listed the musical as returning in March 2025 but there are no other details beyond Evan Bernardin Production as the general manager and Kate Lumpkin for casting; and the report has not been confirmed.
The rumours go further to say that the musical will be a “re-imagined” version of the show and will appear Off-Broadway.
The gothic romance based on the book by Gaston Leroux first appeared on the West End in London in 1986 and came to Broadway in 1988 where it remained until closing last year to make way for renovations at the Majestic Theatre.
But, one thing that is a certainty is a new musical hitting the stage next year based on the black and white cartoon character Betty Boop. While casting has not been announce, “BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical” is set to open with previews on March 11 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The official opening is set for April 5.
The musical made it world premiere last year in Chicago with Jerry Mitchell as director and choreographer. He is set to reprise those roles for the Broadway production.
Inspired by the flappers of the 1920’s, Betty Boop was introduced to the world in 1930. In 1932, she was the only animated female screen star in the world.
