The annual Tony Awards have been handed out and the Broadway season is officially over. Now Broadway turns to an upcoming season and new shows set to open over the next few weeks and months.
“Oh, Mary!” is a one act play in the life of Mary Todd Lincoln taking place in the weeks before Lincoln’s assassination. Previews begin June 26 with an opening set for July 11.
“Job” is a psychological thriller that follows a woman who is trying to get clearance from her therapist to return to work. Previews begin July 15 with an official opening on July 30.
The comedic musical “Once Upon a Mattress” is making a limited run this summer with Sutton Foster and Michael Urie. Previews begin July 31 with an opening on August 12.
Patti LuPone returns to Broadway to join Mia Farrow in “The Roommate”. The comedy is about two women who reinvent themselves. Preview begin August 29 with an opening of September 12.
Academy Award winning actor Robert Downey Jr is making his Broadway debut in the play “McNeal”. In a modern day setting, the play focuses on a writer and his AI obsessed son. Previews begin September 5 with an opening set for September 30.
After a run on the West End, “The Hills of California” is set to debut on Broadway this fall. Set in a hot summer, the play is the story of the Webb sisters. Previews are set to begin September 11 with an official opening on September 29.
The Pulitzer Prize winning play “Our Town” makes a revival this fall after a 25 year hiatus. The 28 member cast includes Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch, Katie Holmes, Billy Eugene Jones, Ephraim Sykes, Richard Thomas, Michelle Wilson, Julie Halston, and Donald Webber Jr. Previews being September 17 with an opening on October 10.
On the heels of the successful musical “Back to the Future”, “Maybe Happy Ending” comes to Broadway this fall. The science fiction musical features a relationship between two robots. “Glee” alum Darren Criss returns to Broadway to perform in the production. Previews begin September 18 with an opening set for October 17.
Sam Gold is bringing a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” to Broadway with previews set for September 26 and an opening of October 24.
Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber returns to Broadway for the new season with a new reimagined production of “Sunset Boulevard”. Previews are set for September 28 with an opening on October 20.
Daniel Dae Kim will star in the comedic play “Yellow Face”; a play of the complexities of race. Previews are set for September 13 with an opening on October 1.
As much as being known for his performance of “Hello, Dolly”; jazz artists Louis Armstrong is also known for “A Wonderful World”. The song is now the title of a new musical about Armstrong with James Monroe Inglehart as Armstrong. Previews begin October 16 with an opening on November 11.
Sir Elton John has joined forces with former Scissor Sisters singer Jake Shears for the musical “Tammy Faye” – the story of the televangelist’s life. With previews set for an October 19 and an opening on November 14; the shows comes to Broadway after a run on the West End in London.
Telling the story of two women looing to stay young at any cost; “Death Becomes Her” will open on Broadway with a new musical adaptation. Cast includes Michelle Williams and Megan Hilty. Previews are set for October 23 and an opening on November 21.
Six time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald takes on the role of Momma Ros in “Gypsy”. After undergoing a major renovation, “Gypsy” will appear at the Majestic Theatre with previews beginning on November 21 with an opening date of December 19.
Crossing the pond after a West End run, “Eureka Day” is a play that puts the spotlight on the vaccination debate in its Broadway debut. Previews are set to begin November 25 with the opening still unsettled sometime in December.
The Pulitzer Prize winning play “English” comes to Broadway. Set in the classroom of adults trying to learn English, the comedy looks at the shortcomings of language. Previews are set to begin January 3 with an opening on January 23.
During the Tony Awards on Sunday night, viewers saw the cast from “Merrily We Roll Along” sing “Old Friends”; next spring the Stephen Sondheim production “Old Friends” will Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga leading the cast. Previews are set to begin on March 25.
Finally making its Broadway debut next spring, “Floyd Collins” is a musical that tells the story of a Kentucky cave explorer when he gets caught in a sand cave. Previews begin March 27 with an opening on April 21.
It has been over 40 years since the Gilber and Sulliavan operetta “The Pirates of Penzance” has docked at a Broadway stage; but next spring the production returns with previews set to begin April 4 and an opening of April 24.
“Swept Away” is a new musical based on the music of Folk-Rockers The Avett Brothers. The musical follows survivors of a shipwreck. Previews are set for October 29 with an opening of November 19.

As new productions prepare to open; others end their runs. The Huey Lewis music “The Heart of Rock and Roll” has set June 23 as its closing date. The music failed to earn any nominations for this year’s Tony Awards. When it closes, “The Heart of Rock and Roll” would have had 24 previews and 72 performances.
