Hatred of road course races is almost as popular among NASCAR fans as stage racing and the playoffs.
There had been some rumours about eliminating the road course race at Charlotte Motor Speedway known as “The Roval”…but not this year.
In fact CMS is making some changes to the road course for the race later this year.
The 17 turn 2.28 mile road course will remain the same with a couple of changes in those turns. The chicane on the frontstretch is being pushed out to make the turn much sharper as the drivers head for the front straighaway of the oval track.
The turn seven right hand “blind turn” is also being changed to a left hand hairpin that will head in to the high banks of turn one of the oval.
Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus Smith spoke on the changes saying that they were intended to create more braking zones in order to encourage more passing.
Smith noted that the changes were made after advice from a number of drivers including legendary racer Mario Andretti.
The Bank of America 400 on The Roval is set for October 13 as the final race in the round of 12 of the Playoffs.
