In something that has not happened in NASCAR over the past few weeks, officials issued three penalties this week…all were serious penalties.
In the Xfinity Series, NASCAR issued an L-1 penalty to JR Motorsports number team for violating the rule book – making adjustments to the car that required a new inspection process. Officials stated that the number one team, driven by Sam Mayer, violated rule book 14.3.1.4 A: Inspection Re-Certification.
As a result of the infraction, driver Sam Mayer and car owner JR Motorsports have been docked 10 points. Crew chief Marten Lindley has been fined $10,000 and is suspended for the next Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 25.
In the Craftsman Truck Series, the number two Rev Racing truck and the number 88 ThorSport Racing trucks were charged with violating the NASCAR rule book – Sections 14.3.1.2 A & B & D: Crew Protective Clothing/Equipment. While NASCAR did not specify the violations, number two tire carrier Jerick Newsome and number 88 tire carrier Marcus Horton have been suspended for the next Truck Series race scheduled this weekend at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
