Stewart-Haas Racing may be facing the first big penalty of the season after NASCAR confiscated parts from the number car driven by Noah Gragson and the number 41 car driven by Ryan Preece.
NASCAR confiscated the roof rail deflectors from the 10 and 41 cars during the inspection process on Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR will taken back to their R&D center for further evaluation.
The roof rail deflectors are not a part of the provided – source only – parts provided by NSCAR; but are manufactured by the crews.
According to the NASCAR rule book, the roof air deflectors “must be constructed of 0.05-inch thick aluminum and be installed perpendicular in the applicable slots. They must no interfere with the functioning of the roof flaps and must be painted.”
The roof rail deflectors create drag but are an important part of how the car reacts during a spin.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr’s number 47 car failed the inspection process twice. As a result he has lost a crew member for the weekend and will not be able to select his own pit stall.
