Write about your approach to budgeting.

I always make sure that the rent and other bills are paid first, then I know what I have for the month.

I have long ago learned how to make the money and the month end at the same time…take advantage of sales!

For a while companies were generous with food coupons and I took advantage of every one I could; especially if the item was on sale.

And speaking of sales, if a store has a good deal on something I use, I will buy it, even if I don’t need it at the time…I know that I will at some point in the near future and if it saves me money all the better.

No matter where the money comes from, there is only so much of it to go around…unless of course, your name appears on a list in Forbes magazine…and as recent events have shown, it is best to be as prepared as possible for times when getting to a store is not possible – whether it be a storm, pandemic, or out of a job.

When there is little money coming in, you quickly learn to find ways of making what you do get go as far as possible…even after things get better, the old habits are there and can come in very handy.

I grew up in hurricane country and now live in snow country; waiting to the last minute for anything is never a good idea. When a warning comes, I don’t need to fight the crowds, I’m ready to weather the storm.
