How are you creative?

How am I creative????

Let me count the ways…

I have been a journalist for over 30 years, creating thousands of articles. I have written tons of articles using press releases and the like but I have never just set up a tape recorder, asked a list of questions someone else provided, and then transcribed the responses. To me, that is not writing or being creative. My interviews include me, the interviewee, a pen, and a notebook or pad of paper. While there may be a few questions among my research; there is no list; especially one provided by some editor or press rep somewhere.

I am also a photographer. I have covered hundreds of concerts and taken thousands of photos; far more than ever get posted in the articles. When not covering a music act, I prefer seascapes, landscapes, and especially sunsets.

Never one to just sit, I am always doing something. If I am not reading then I am crocheting; working on a blanket or making hats that are given to the hospital for the newborn babies or to someone who passes them on to those in need. Over the past few years, every member of my immediate family has been given a blanket…including the babies. It gives me something to do while I am watching TV.

I make soap for Christmas each year, have made candy canes and easter baskets out of polymer clay, sewed skirts, make pillows and stuffed dolls, and any number of crafts. Occasionally, I even do some painting.

And sometimes I even manage to work in some practice time on my guitar. While I don’t do any songwriting, I do a little playing.

Sitting around doing nothing has never been my thing. I never could understand people who say they are bored. How can anyone ever be bored??? If nothing else, pick up a book – which I also do a good bit of…but that doesn’t require any creativity.

P.S. the feature photo is one of my own. I took it this past summer while in a boat on the Niagara River.
