The Screen Actors Guild Awards have announced that when they present their annual awards on February 24, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to PEGOT winner Barbra Streisand. 

Streisand is one of only three people who have earned Peabody, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards. 

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented each year to the person who demonstrates the “finest ideals of the acting profession”.  “Recipients of this award is a well-established performer who has contributed to improving the image of the acting profession and has a history of active involvement in humanitarian and public service endeavors.

Previous Lifetime Achievement Award winners include Sally Field, Helen Miren, Carol Burnett, Morgan Freeman, and Lily Tomlin.

Next Year the SAG Awards will be aired on Netflix.

Speaking on the award, Streisand said, “ever since I was a young girl sitting in the Loew’s Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, I dreamed of being one of those actresses I saw on the screen. The movies were a portal to a world I could only imagine. Even though I was an unlikely candidate, somehow my dream came true. This award is especially meaningful to me because it comes from my fellow actors, whom I so admire.”

We celebrate Barbra Streisand not just for her achievements but for the enduring legacy she has carved.”

Barbra Streisand has been entertaining audiences for over 60 years; whether it be performing in a Broadway musical, singing, or acting in a film, and has collecting awards for her talents ever since she won a Grammy Award for her debut album in 1963.  She holds the record for most number one albums by a woman with eleven.  She became the first female to win an Academy Award for composing when the theme for “A Star is Born” took the award for the song.

Other firsts include, the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major studio film with “Yentl”; for which she also won Golden Globe for directing the film – the first woman to do so.

Streisand has sold over 150 million records around the world and in the U.S., the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) she is tied with Mariah Carey for “the highest-certified female artist in the United States, with 68.5 million certified album units.”

Billboard has named her the “greatest female artist” on the Billboard 200 Album chart and the top Adult Contemporary female artist of all time.
