Rock and Americana artist James Mastro has just released a new single and video for “Right Word, Wrong Song” in a preview to his upcoming album “Dawn of a New Error” which is set for a February 21 release.
Ian Hunter from Mott the Hoople joins Mastro on the song and video. Hunter is also featured on a few songs on the album.
A big topic in today’s society, the song is about “the slant on news, where ‘truth’ is shaped to fit a preferential narrative.”
Speaking on the video, Mastro says, “the video is a tip of the hat to fellow New Jerseyans Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. Over the years they’ve been able to point out facts that should be blatantly obvious, but sometimes aren’t so until presented in a humourous way. Ian Hunter cast as the weatherman makes perfect sense to me, as he’s weathered many storms over the decades. And come out fine. That’s news I can trust.”
A longtime performer, Mastro has been writing and playing guitar since he was in his teens. Over the years he has been a part of The Richard Lloyd Group, The Bongos, The Health & Happiness Show, Mott the Hopps ’74, Pattie Smith, John Cale, Judy Collins, Alejandro Escovedo, Garland Jeffreys, The Jayhawks, and Southside Johnny. He has opened for numerous artists including Wilco, Johnny Cash, Golden Smog, Barenaked Ladies, Beat Farmers, The Blasters, and Kirsty MacColl.
